IAF & Local Police Rescues Boy Trapped On Cliff In Nandi Hills In Karnataka

Nandi Hills: A 19-year-old student who fell 300 feet from a steep cliff onto a rocky ledge has been rescued by the Indian Air Force (IAF) and Chikkaballapur police in a quick response. The boy was stuck on a cliff in Nandi Hills in Karnataka since the evening of February 20 and an IAF helicopter came to his rescue.

The boy has been identified as Nishank. The incident unravelled when Nishank lost his balance and accidentally slipped from the cliff and got trapped in the Brahmagiri Rocks in the hills, falling 300 feet below.

He immediately informed the police about it and sent his location, after which a search and rescue operation was launched.

As per the Chikkaballapur SP GK Mithun Kumar, the police team along with the state disaster relief force (SDRF) and the National Disaster Relief Force (NDRF), immediately rushed to the spot but were unable to provide help, as a result of which they had to contact the Indian Air Force station at Yelahanka.

The PRO Defence, while addressing the issue, said that the Air Force Station Yelahanka was contacted by the District Collector of Chikkaballapur, where the DC informed about a young trekker being trapped in Brahmagiri Rocks in Nandi hills after slipping and falling 300 feet below.

It further added that a Mi-17 helicopter was duly despatched. The rescue team managed to locate the stranded boy after carrying out an intensive search operation with the help of the local police who were assisting them with ground guidance.

However, the IAF chopper was unable to land as the terrain was treacherous. As a result, the Mi-17's flight gunner was lowered down close to the boy. The gunner successfully helped him with a harness and thereafter, he was lifted up.

The survivor did not incur any serious injuries but Air Force medical assistant onboard the chopper checked his health condition to ensure that he was fine.

The victim was finally flown to Air Force Station Yelahanka from where he was taken to civil hospital to undergo treatment.
